This picture was taken way before i could remember. My parents tell me i was couple months old and my sister was about two. I was supposed to go take a bath that day. While my mother was preparing it, she left me naked on the bed. My sister then came along and wanted to play "Mommy". In her hand she's holding a bar of soap, and her idea of a bath was rubbing me with it. Judging from the picture, i'm horrified or something. I chose this picture because although my sister is doing everything wrong, "its the thought that counts". And even 'til this day, she may be mean and aggressive, but she has the right idea. |

My artifact was supposed to be a rose pendant, but due to a loose chain, i lost it. The one i chose to represent today is its replacement that i recently bought to prove to my father that i didn't lose it. When i was in first or second grade, my father bought me a golden chain and a silver pendant with a small, beautiful rose inside. I loved it. Throughout the school year, i would show it off and always chew it. But after awhile, i noticed the chain would get loose and fall off. Every now and then i would give it to my father to fix and i would wear it yet again. One day, i just didn't have it anymore. I was always frantically searching for it everywhere but i never found it. My father didn't ask about it and i just kept it hush. It wasn't that recently, that i came across the one i have now, and i bought it. I showed it to my father and he believed me. Til this day, he still doesn't know. I chose the rose pendant as my artifact because my father and i don't have a good relationship, and the pendant was one of the few things he gave me when i was a child. My artifact is something that i look at every now and reminds me of the "good ol' days" with my dad. |

For an artifact I brought something neutral. I am Mexican and Guatemalan and it can be hard to mistake the two. The skeleton is a symbol of Central America's "Day of the Dead". On November's first two days we celebrate and remember those who passed on. On those days we pray, light candles, and set out food to respect those who are now deceased. I chose this artifact to symbolize one of our most celebrated holidays. |

The mask is more symoblic rather than an artifact that you can look at and easily tell its history. My artifact wasn't something I bought or got at a store. The mask is something my father made about two years ago. I guess in my point of view, whenever I look at it, all I can think about is the Central American culture. All over central America, people make this from their bare hands: food, clothing, art, homes, etc. And to me, the mask is a symbol of that and how its still existing no matter how much civilization has grown and "improved." |

My first social issue is poverty. Poverty is all over the world and not many people are working towards improving it. Millions of people are homeless and unemployed, and their reasons are various. Some of them could be war veterans that came back with nothing waiting for them, immigrants in search of a new life, people that are disabled and aren't capable of working, hard working "bread winners" under the curse of minimum wage, etc,. Whatever the reason, people are in need of help. Poverty is seen everywhere, in every state and country. Third world countries such as Africa is widely known for their poverty problems. In Africa you can see small skeleton-like children with their skins attached to their bone. Although this issue has no personal story with me, its still a big deal to me since there's not a day that i don't see a homeless person or hear something in the news of our severe economic issues. |

Africa has a lot going on. Africa is crawling in diseases and epidemics, they have the genocide of Darfur and the multiple sex acts against women are considered to be a "Genocide Against Women" in the Congo, as well as the malnutrition and overpopulation. Africa is a resourceful country but its several conflicts over the years have created a perversion in justice and health. The issues that really get to me are Darfur and the fact that the US has no intent of helping as well as China's contribution to the chaos in addition to the Congo's silent rapes that not many people are aware of. Even though these issues don't affect me directly, its just wrong, people should unite and help out. |

I am a fan of indie rock. My favorite bands are Stars, The Beatles, and The Sounds. I love them so much because they all have a unique sound and are pretty much different from most bands. My favorite quotes are Lance Armstrong's "Pain is temporary. Quitting lasts forever" as well as the biblical verse "An eye for an eye will leave the world blind." Armstrong's qoute is significant to me because, its really true, pain is eventually going to to away but its not as bad as not trying all together. As for the biblical one, its not one I really live by, but its a quote that I keep in mind whenever I'm mad or about to make a decision that may affect others. |

My hobbies are photography, antique-hunting, softball, and reading. I love photography. Photography is a new hobby and interest that I have come across and hope to further explore. Besides photography I love antiques. I am obsessed with anything old and retro. For example, my dream car is a 1963 Volkswagon Bug. My favorite sport is softball, I haven't actually played for a year now, but is still remains to be my sport. I also enjoy reading every now and then. My favorite book in particular is "For One More Day" by Mitch Albom. |

I haven't travelled as much as i'd like but I've been to a couple states so far. My all time favorite place was Medford, Oregon. There I was fortunate to watch plays in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. As for my hometown in LA, I love going to the school the most. As nerdy as that may sound, its true. In my school, there are no popular kids, there are no bullies either, its just a big family, everybody knows each other. |
