The picture I chose is a picture of me and my mom. I was about 2 years old in this picture. I chose this picture because it was taken in one of my favorite places that I visit in Mexico, called La Bufa. During this time I was still a baby, so I don’t think I had anything to worry about. My childhood was great, just watching cartoons and no HW to do. It was like kick back.
An artifact that has a great significance from my childhood is my baby pillow. I’ve had this pillow for 17 years already. My grandma made me this pillow when I was just a baby, so it makes her happy knowing that I still have it. This pillow has been through everything, especially tears. I still sleep with it. I would cry if I ever lost it or left it behind somewhere far away.
This rosary was given to me by my uncle in Mexico. When people see this on me they might get the idea of what religion I come from. I’m a Catholic. I’m not a true Catholic; I don’t really follow the “rules” that my religion has, and I don’t attend church every Sunday. Religion is an important part of my life. Just because I don’t attend church, that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped loving God.
The artifact that represents my culture is my Mexican flag. I picked my flag because it shows people that I’m Latina and also what kind of culture I follow. My identity is important to me because I like who I am and what my parents have showed me from their cultural background. I like my Mexican culture more than my American culture because there's more unity with family.
One social issue that is important to me is immigration. It's important to me because some of my family members are immigrants as well. I hate when people make bad comments about immigrants. I actually just feel like dropping some teeth out of their mouths. There might be some immigrants that might destroy our communities but there are some that come here to follow their American dream. They come here to get a better life for their kids and themselves. They're always getting blamed for stupid things like taking jobs away. People are just hating on us.
My main goals are to graduate from high school and go to college. I’m hoping to find a good career that I would like to do. I’m unsure what I want to be, but it's between a CSI or something else.
The most important thing in my life right now is my family. Family always comes first. Then there’s my education. I’m a senior so there’s a lot coming ahead and I need to prepare myself. I really like soccer; I could say it is my passion. I like to watch it and I really love playing it with my team.
I really like watching soccer at the park and on TV.
I like any type of movies- drama, action, comedy, and horror films- especially if it has something to do with vampires.
Poetry is a thing I like to read. It makes me feel happy when I’m sad, depending on the mood I am in.
My happy place is in Mexico with my family and friends. I feel free there, no drama, just pure happiness. I also like to be at my kick back spot at school with my friends. Laughing, helping each other with our work, being there for one another. These two places are my comfort and safe zone because there’s always someone there for me, no matter what.
