STEVE KIM

My name is Steve Kim and I am a Korean- American Student attending the school Camino Nuevo High School. I joined youTHink to better my chances of getting into college and to be an active support in my community. I was born on October 26, 1992, in South Korea. I came to the United States when I was only 8 months old. I was practically raised here. Life here in Los Angeles is going great for me. Hollywood, of course, is amazing in so many different ways. One unique aspect of me is that I play different instruments and get things really easily. I play the guitar, drums, violin, bass, and piano. My grades aren't all that good. I don't stand in the same line when people say Asians have good grades. I'm pretty much the opposite. I'm not slow, I'm just lazy when it comes to homework.

My musical influences have always and will always be the instruments of the world. My instruments are the guitar, violin, piano, drums, and bass. The quote I live by is "two negatives don't make a positive". This quote goes so good with my personality because I hate the fact that a room full of people are sad and gloomy. I believe that there should be at least one that is happy and cheerful because you get no where when everyones sad and complaining. The one that is still straight and in truth trying to make the best of any situation is the one that will go on to the next level. The music I listen to is very punk rock, screamo, emo, acoustic, hip hop, heavy metal, metal, dead metal, and speed metal. I write music and my main instrument is the guitar. I write songs that people face in an everyday life and try to put myself in their shoes to write a song that'll not make them feel so alone in this vast world, but more like a part of the world. Music is my life and I intend to pursue it as a career.
My vision in life is to be a music producer in the field of rock. I will get into contract law so that I get the license to make a contract and be able to make it legal. But, before I become a producer I would love to be in a band with my guitarist Erick and lead vocalist/ bassist Bryan. My other main goal is to become a mechanical engineer and make my own brand of cars. I would like to go MIT and fully get into it, but I'm still in the state of choosing to get a licence in engineering or getting a degree. A degree is much better, but at the same time if I get a license I may be able to start so much earlier. If I get the license, I can learn my lessons quicker for I will be making so many mistakes and through this I can change in a better way.

When I grow up, my dream is to travel across the world in just a car and $1,000 in my pocket. I know it'll be hard, but what I want to gain is a new experience and a whole new perspective. I hate mooching off of my parents and others. I would so much rather pay for my own stuff with a job. The only place out of state I have been is Korea. Korea is very jam packed and a rough country to get around in a car. I recommend walking in Korea because the sites are amazing. And in a car, all you'll really get is traffic. The place I would want to go most right now is Tokyo, Japan. Not only is it an amazing place, but the cars there are more than I could ever want .Traveling is going to be my life as I go touring with my band across the countries doing what we do. My dreams are all filled in one thing, my music.

My hobbies are music, football, running, philosophy, art, photography, antiques, collecting shoes, long walks on the beach, playing the guitar, writing music, and looking at sceneries. Photography is by far one of the hobbies that I enjoy. I love the art of capturing the moment and trying to create a kodak moment. I started to get into photography when I was about thirteen years old. I was always interested in looking at kodak pictures that others took that were just so amazing. Music is probably the biggest hobby I can ever do because my life is surrounded by music. I play the guitar and write my own songs. I'm in a band called the Uppercase Movement , but we always change up the name. Our genre of music is alternative rock and punk rock. I play the rhythm guitar, the lead guitar, and the solo guitar. I have written about five to six beats and about four of the five lyrics. I am currently hoping to create my own record label and be a music producer to produce my own band, Uppercase Movement.

My passions are based on music and my love life. My music is one of the most biggest parts of my life. It will be my future my career and I will be known throughout the world. My passion for music is what drives me to my goals now. I have a band and we are currently trying to find studios to record music and just practice. For now, the school is our studio. My girlfriend is my other passion in life. I love her more than anyone and I can say right now that I'm completely happy being with her. Her name is Diana and I would give up anything in the world for her, even my music. The thing that drives me so mad over her is that she is just so beautiful, she is most definitely smart, she is in fact funny, and she wants to make me happy. I believe that these two big passions that I have will get me somewhere in life. Without these two things I am nothing.

This is my family artifact. It relates to what this word I call family because this was my first guitar. This was given to me by my dad who does not live with me anymore. I hardly get to see him anymore and I hate the fact that i didn't get to know him. The only real thing that I still have from him is this guitar. I still get to see him when we go out and eat, but I mean it's not the same feeling as having a father. This guitar is a significant part of my life and my future. I would never throw away this guitar. The sound is horrible, but this guitar brought me to create a band and record music. This guitar is what started me off in my music. I write music, I sing, I play and all because of this guitar. This artifact is very important to me.
This is my cultural artifact and basically it's a diary that my mom wrote. It's about my sister's babyhood and she wrote in it practically every every moment my sister did someting special. I want it to be a tradition in my family because I think so many people ask about their baby years and some parents don't remember. I think of this artifact to be a special reminder of how meaningful it can be to just write down what happens on a daily basis. This diary of my sister that my mom wrote is something significant .

This picture is a picture of me, my sister, and my mother. My father is not in the picture because I don't really see him as a father figure. He hasn't helped out at all and after all these years I just can't see him as my father anymore. I believe this picture represents my family. The people who i grew up with from birth and stuck with me until now. These are the ones that will always be with me and never leave me. My family is forever and forever is never ending. My family will always stay even through the bad. These are the people I choose to trust forever.
