FAMILY AND CHILDHOOD

|
This is a picture of my family and me as a child. This picture is very important to me because it is one the few pictures I have of my biological father. I was told I'm about 1 or 2 years old in the picture and it was taken at El Mercadito in East LA. This picture is a constant reminder of how much I look like my father, but I still look funny.
|
My heritage lies in Guatemala, Germany and Mexico. My grandfather on my mother's side is full German, born in Guatemala. My father is from Aguas Calientes, Mexico. I was raised by my mother so I know more about my Guatemalan heritage than any other. I find it interesting how each Latin American country has its own variation of the Spanish language. For example, voz to me, means you, while to most other Latin people it means voice. I love my mixed heritage. I don’t necessarily let it identify who I am but, I’m very proud of it. |
CULTURE AND COMMUNITY

SOCIETY

The homeless rate in America is something I am very passionate about. I grew up in Los Angeles and grew up around a lot of homeless people. Also growing up my mother and I experienced this end of the spectrum, so that is another reason I am very passionate about this problem. I hope that someday we can lower the homeless rate to zero but with a troubled economy it doesn't look good. |

When I grow up I want to be a psychologist. I hope to study at USC but will have to work really hard to achieve my dream. Another thing I believe in strongly is peace. As the great Ghandi once said, "It is my conviction that nothing enduring can be built on violence."

I have The Da Vinci Code; it is one of my favorite books. The first time I read this book it was a revealing experience because I liked the new style of a conspiracy novel. Before this, I read Angels and Demons by the same author. I have also always been interested in iconology. This book has a lot of secrets and stories, but I know that the book is for entertainment and nothing more. This book was really interesting because of the hidden plots and twists in everything. All in all, Dan Brown, the author of both books, is probably my favorite author. I also have some of my favorite movies and one of my favorite artists Hokusai.

I really care about foster children. After reading the series by Dave Pelzer A Child Called It, I really developed a passion to help foster children. I hope to become a psychologist and specifically help foster children. I also care a lot about poverty. I personally don’t feel it’s right for America the “leader of the free world” to let tens of millions to go to state lotteries, yet there are people starving and dying all around us. Last but not least, I am very passionate about reggae music. I love the beautiful vibrations that emanates from this genre of music.

EARS-MUSIC QUOTES

|
This is a collage of my favorite artists and quotes. Most of the pictures are of reggae artists but there are also some rappers like Common and People Under the Stairs. A lot of the quotes are by Bob Marley and Gandhi; these two men have been very influential in my life. Throughout my life I have loved bass. In music and in reggae and hip hop, I found just that. Heavy bass lines give beautiful vibrations. I believe that vibrations control our emotions in this world. If you don't have a good feeling, you can't be happy. These two types of music give me Irie feelings, or at complete peace with one's self.
